Baby nijlpaardje in de Zoo van Antwerpen | Baby hippo in the Zoo of Antwerp

Vorig jaar stond het olifantje (Kai-Mook) dat op 17 mei 2009 is geboren volop in de belangstelling. Maar ook dit jaar heeft de Zoo van Antwerpen een nieuwkomer van omvang. Je zou het niet zeggen maar het schattige babynijlpaardje dat op 22 mei geboren is zal over een paar jaar 3000 kilo wegen.

Haar moeder (Iman) en jong stellen het goed. Dat de jonge moeder (2 jaar) en 4 maanden nu al zwanger was is uitzonderlijk want de gemiddelde leeftijd van de eerste zwagerschap ligt op 7 jaar. Zij is dan ook de derde jongste moeder in Europa.

Last year was the spotlight directed on the newborn elephant (Mai Mook). This year the Zoo of Antwerp has also a heavy newborn. You wouldn’t say that this cute baby hippo (born on the 22nd of May 2010) will weigh 3000 kilos in a few years.

Her mother (Iman) and young are doing fine. The fact that she is already a mother (3) is very exceptional because the average age of the first pregnancy is 7 years. She is the third youngest mother in Europe.
